The law on real equality between women and men

Summary:

The law no. 2014-873 of 4 August 2014 on real equality between women and men introduced provisions to encourage the representation of women in the decision-making bodies of political parties. It introduced financial penalties for parties that do not respect parity in the composition of their governing bodies. The aim of these penalties is to encourage parties to promote balanced participation between men and women. The law thus strengthens the commitment to gender equality in politics by encouraging more equitable representation on party decision-making bodies, and extends the parity requirement to sports federations, public industrial and commercial establishments, chambers of commerce and industry and chambers of agriculture. This initiative is an important step towards overcoming gender imbalances in the political landscape and promoting more equitable participation of women in political life.
