Women’s Solidarity (EN)

Problem:

To prevent domestic violence and all forms of violence against women, the legal system is not enough. As this type of violence is still often considered accidental, the problem is not covered by all aspects of society.
How do you find a listening, reception and support structure if you are a victim of domestic violence?

Solution:

The solutions are based on 3 principles:
- Standing up for women's rights to freedom, equality and integrity, and supporting them in their efforts to escape violence and achieve autonomy.
- Recognize violence against women as one of the manifestations of persistent inequalities between women and men.
- Create an extensive network across France, with reception centers and qualified psychologists to support victims, as well as a 24-hour emergency hotline.

Target:

All victims of domestic violence as well as women victims of violence because they are women. According to the latest reports, 97% of victims of domestic violence are women, and half of them are aged between 20 and 39.

Description of the policy / project

The aim is to provide the best possible assistance to victims of domestic violence and to women who have suffered violence. To this end, several facilities have been set up:
- Emergency shelters
- A telephone hotline available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- A legal support system
And on a more political scale, this group of associations aims to make its voice heard by public authorities and raise public awareness.

Thanks in particular to state subventions and the role of volunteers, everything is taken care of, and victims don't have to pay for anything, whether it's the shelters, legal consultations or the emergency hotline.

In France, more than 81 structures are operating throughout the country.

Overcame obstacle

Victims' sense of isolation is one of the first obstacles, and this organization is fully committed to helping prevent victims from remaining silent. The other, more society-wide, obstacle is to change the way people think about violence against women, so that the problem is no longer seen as "accidental" and anecdotal.
